Five years are not easy task to handle when you have a huge pile of books to study, countless exams to give and the most difficult one is when you are responsible for health of people. I see many students who are unable to cope with stress during their medical school life. The whole catch in being a good student with good grades is to manage your time and utilizing it LIKE A BOSS.
What I have learnt in my 5 years;
1- ACCEPT MEDICINE ... I saw a lot of people saying each other that they didn't want to join this field but did as a compulsion. STOP SAYING IT. Now you are in MEDICAL SCHOOL so accept it and try to get along with this fact. EITHER LEAVE IT OR ACCEPT IT BY HEART.
2- GOOD GRADES ... Pre-medical students when join this field then all of sudden there is a huge change in skills as well as burden of studies. DON'T WORRY IF YOUR GRADES FALL TEMPORARILY. It's perfectly natural. There is a hell in difference between pre-medical and medical school. It is a TEMPORARY FALL. If you get OBSESSED WITH GRADES then YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG.
3- CHOICE OF BOOKS ... I want you to read this one very carefully. MY CONCEPT ABOUT BOOKS IS ... ;
" NO MATTER IF YOU STUDY A LITTLE LESS THAN OTHERS BUT FOLLOW A GOOD AND STANDARD BOOK SO THAT EVEN A PROFESSOR GETS COMPELLED TO BELIEVE YOU DUE TO YOUR EXTENSIVE KNOWLEDGE AND GRIP OVER THAT SPECIFIC TOPIC "
Choice of book depends upon your system of study. If you are a student of INTEGRATED SYSTEM then you may need a little detail of everything and if you are following OLD TRADITIONAL SYSTEM then teachers expect from you t know EVERY DETAIL OF SOMETHING.
- Choose book according to your study system
- Choose book according to your mental caliber
- Choose book according to the available time
- Choose book according to your level of interpretation
- Choose book according to your study system
- Choose book according to your mental caliber
- Choose book according to the available time
- Choose book according to your level of interpretation
KEEP IN MIND that some professors are very allergic from local writers no matter how good they have written. ALWAYS CONSULT seniors to know which book is preferred by faculty of that subject.
4- BOOKWORMS ... When I was in first year, I thought, i am only alive to do medicine and study. BUT I WAS WRONG. Then i realized i have a LIFE too. I came out of my illusion and spared time for myself and TRUST ME IT DIDN'T AFFECTED MY GRADES. However, I was very relaxed and started enjoying my life. HANG OUT WITH YOUR FRIENDS. GO ON A DATE AS NORMAL PEOPLE GO. PLAY SOCCER. SPEND TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT IS NEVER EVER FORGET TO SMILE.
5- SPEND TIME WITH PATIENTS ... We generally have a concept that these 5 years are for gathering knowledge and post medical school house job is for applying your knowledge. Yeah! no doubt these 5 years are for knowledge BUT THESE 5 YEARS ARE ALSO FOR APPLYING AND INTEGRATING KNOWLEDGE. Go to wards, see patients, interact with them and ask teachers to help you out if there is some interesting case in your ward. Study that case in home. COME BACK AND APPLY YOUR LEARNT KNOWLEDGE and that knowledge should be in diagnosing and picking up findings. Management will be better if left with professionals. :p
6- THE TRUTH ... In this profession, you are earning every time. You are earning bread for your family, your are earning blessings of the sufferers, you are earning respect. People think that doctors are servants. FUCK NO ... WE ARE NOT YOUR SERVANTS. WE ARE THE SERVANTS OF HUMANITY AND WE WERE CHOSEN FOR THIS TASK. A doctor has a life to enjoy as his vacation. He has a family to run with his earnings and HE HAS THE RIGHT ON EVERY HAPPINESS THAT A COMMON PERSON HAVE. What is extra for him, I tell you ... THIS IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE HEALTH OF HUMANITY. And it is not bad if he gets paid for this responsibility.
